Yes, acne will take away a little from your looks. Evidently people will notice it but most people could care less. Personality and confidence is much more important than your complexion. It’s true; the only thing that makes you truly ugly is a lack of confidence. Looks are irrelevant, if you have confidence people will be drawn to you.

You must realize that almost everyone, at some point in their life, gets acne; even movie stars and pop stars have these types of problems.

Skin Care Routines You Should Follow

Your skin is one of the most valuable things you have. In order to keep your skin looking young and healthy there is a certain routine you should follow. Some things are fairly basic, such as washing your face at least twice daily. You should also wash your body at least once daily, either through a sponge bath or shower. Where it may get confusing is figuring out which types of soaps or body washes to use.

Using regular body soap is fine, but it can include some harsh detergents which can strip the oil from your skin. However, not all soaps are like that, so you really have to pick and choose which one is best for your skin type. To figure out what skin type you are you can simply look in the mirror during daylight hours. If you have shiny skin then chances are you have an oily complexion, especially if it is shiny in the T-zone which is the forehead, nose, and chin areas. This is where your oil glands are the most prevalent, and where you get the most acne breakouts. If you have dry skin, you may notice a dehydrated appearance to your skin. It could feel tight and it may look dull or flaky. If you have normal skin then you have a more uniform texture and you will notice that you only break out occasionally. Still yet, some people have combination skin which means that it has both oily and dry patches.

When it comes to picking the right soaps, here are some suggestions:

For oily skin – choose soaps that contain salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide

For dry skin – choose gentle soaps which contain moisturizers such as pure glycerin soap

For sensitive skin – choose hypoallergenic soaps and avoid soaps that are perfumed or have antibacterial qualities

For normal skin – choose plant based soaps that are made for the face to avoid clogged pores

By deciphering your skin type and using the right types of soaps or washes, your skin should clear up and look healthy. Continue to wash your face at least twice a day and apply moisturizer when you are done for the best skin you can have.

Eliminating Dark Spots on Your Skin

Everyone wants a smooth, clear complexion, but over time certain factors can lead to dark spots on your skin. Even if you clean your face regularly you may still develop what is known as hyper-pigmentation, or dark spots. Dark spots are pockets of discolored skin that remain after pimples or legions have disappeared. If you find that it is harmless you can try some home remedies that may effectively get rid of them, or at least diminish them. There are certain over the counter creams and sun block that are specially formulated to diminish dark spots. Either way, you should start using sun block immediately with at least a SPF of 15 or higher.

There are skin lighteners that contain mild hydroquinone which is essentially skin bleach. There are many types of skins that cannot tolerate this ingredient, but if you can, this is a great way to lighten the dark spots. Although it may take up to a year to fade the most darkened of areas, for most people it can be very effective. If over the counter remedies don’t work then it may be time to consider skin peelings that can be done at a dermatologists office that will take away the top layer of your skin around the dark spot so that over the course of a few acne treatments it will no longer be visible. To avoid getting any future dark spots, it is important that you stop picking or popping your pimples that you currently have. It can result in scarring which can lead to dark spots.
