The Proper Way to Pop a Pimple

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

As you have probably already been taught, you should never pop a pimple. However, how many of us actually listen to that? A pimple is simply meant to be popped, because it not only looks unsightly but it is a habit that we still follow long after we have left high school. The reason we are told never to pop it is because it can become more infected, leading to even worse acne or inflamed pustules. The best way to pop a pimple is to do so through a professional acne facial, or to simulate one at home.

The first thing that happens at professional acne facial is the cleansing of the face. This is usually done with acne products that are specifically meant for acne or oily skin. From there, a scrub mask should be put on before the face is steamed with a facial steamer. This can be done for a period of 15 minutes. After the steaming is completed the skin would be massaged to remove the debris and a wet sponge would rinse the scrub off completely. If you are not able to go to a spa to do this, you can do all of this at home with a few revisions. Start by washing and applying the scrub mask on your face. Then just bend over a bowl of boiled water keeping your face about 10 inches above the surface of the water. Allow 15 minutes for steam to open your pores and then rinse off the scrub mask with warm water.

For the extraction of the pimple you really should invest in a quality pimple extractor which is an instrument with a ring at one end for the black heads and a needle at the other to prick the pimples before popping. You simply press the ring to the side of the skin to extract the blackheads that have now been loosened up. If you have a ripe or ready to be popped pimple, you then pierce it to remove the pus. You should never do this on pimples that do not have a white head on it, otherwise you can cause scarring. Also, make sure that you sterilize the needle of the extractor over a fire to make sure you do not infect the area. Then apply an antiseptic to prevent any infection. Lastly, you should apply a mud mask over the skin to really deep clean it.

How to Avoid Acne Scars

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Acne scars are very unsightly, and they can bring a lot of shame to people who are inflicted with them. That is why it is so important to try to avoid them as much as you can. There are many ways to avoid acne scars, but the best way, as well as the way that will guarantee no scarring, is to not pop, pick, squeeze, or open your pimples.

That may sound simple enough, but for most of us, that can be a hard habit to break. Dermatologists who have specialized equipment should be the only ones who pop your pimples. The main reason for this is that if you squeeze or pick open a pimple, you are basically opening up the wound for bacteria to enter it that can cause an infection. When you have an infected pimple, you will see a lot of pus and blood, and it will look much worse than your original pimple. It can also lead to reemerging pimples in the same area which in turn leads to deeper scarring.

Permanent scarring happens most often when you treat your pimples in a less than sterile environment. What happens is that the damaged skin closes around the hole which was once a pimple. When this happens the scar becomes indented and tends to stay there for a long time if not forever. The larger the pimple, the larger the scar is going to be.

Besides popping and picking at your pimples, the best way to avoid permanent acne scarring is to prevent acne. This can be done by eating the right types of foods, washing your face twice daily, using facial washes made specifically for your skin type, and use the  best acne medicine if you are already affected by acne. Although acne is a part of life, acne scars are not. You don’t have to have them on your face if you use the best acne treatments and common sense. Make sure that if you acne affects your life, no matter how much you have tried to prevent it, that you seek acne treatments that will eliminate the cause of the acne scarring before it happens.

The Most Effective Ways to Prevent Acne

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Although acne is extremely prevalent among teenagers, acne also affects adults just as much. Acne can be embarrassing and frustrating to deal with, especially as you get older. If you have already found out that you are acne prone there are ways to help prevent the onset of an acne breakout.

The first thing you need to do is to find out what is causing your acne. In total, there are 27 known causes of acne such as stress, pregnancy, menopause, adolescent conditions, diabetes, eczema, and other hormonal issues which are the most common. By figuring out what the cause is you can work towards finding a permanent solution rather than a temporary acne solution that only masks the problem.

The second thing you need to do to prevent acne is to reduce your stress. Since stress is the most common cause of acne in adults you have to try to avoid it. Almost 80% of adult sufferers of acne have found that stress, depression, and anxiety are the reasons that they have a breakout. By learning how to relax and avoid stress altogether, you may be able to stop the onset of acne breakouts or at least make them more tolerable.

Finally, to prevent further acne, you need to find an acne treatment for it. Some people can try almost every over the counter acne treatment only to find out that their acne keeps coming back. You may want to talk to your dermatologist about prescription treatments as well as thermal treatments that work long term. There are topical creams that can be prescribed by your dermatologist that will work better than over the counter treatments for severe acne. Choosing the best acne treatment is done after figuring out what is the cause of the acne. Therefore, you can find one that works better for your skin type and condition.

The best course of action is to seek help from a dermatologist that may recommend you the best acne product for your type of acne. They are best suited to decide what is best for you and your skin, and can usually offer suggestions that allow you to free yourself from the embarrassment of acne.

Healthy Diet Equals Healthy Skin

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Just as all your organs need the proper care and nutrition, your skin needs nourishment too. Your skin is actually the body’s largest organ and  as you know, it covers you from head to toe. As an essential organ, you need to take care of it for your entire life, so you can continue to have radiant and healthy skin long term.

Although there are a lot of acne products on the market that say that they can help you look younger and more vibrant, often the most overlooked acne treatment for the skin is simply your diet. What you eat isn’t just reflected on your body, but on your skin as well. If you eat food that is fatty and processed then you are more likely to have oily skin that is ripe for acne. However, if you learn how to add healthier food to your diet such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, your skin will look better than ever.

Food that is rich in antioxidants gives you great and radiant skin. Through years of research it has been found that antioxidants actually slow down the aging process because it is slowing down cell degeneration. This helps you to avoid wrinkles, dark spots, and other blemishes that mar your complexion. By increasing your intake of fruits and leafy vegetables to the recommended amount of 5 to 9 servings per day you are increasing your antioxidant intake.

As well as upping your vegetable and fruit intake, you also need to add a lot more water to your diet. Although it has long been said that 8 glasses of water per day is enough, it is recommended that you drink half your body weight in water ounces. For example, if you weigh 150 pounds, you should be drinking at least 75 ounces of water per day. This is integral for healthy looking skin because it keeps it hydrated and looking young.

Both protein and good carbohydrates also add to your skins healthy appearance by giving your body the vitamins and nutrients that it needs to keep you looking younger. If this all sounds like a way to eat healthier, it is, but there are absolute benefits from doing so. Your skin will never look as wonderful as it does if you follow a healthy diet.
